Yogyakarta, Indonesia – UNU Jogja has been recognized in the World University Ranking for Innovation (WURI) 2025, ranking in three of sixteen categories: 7th globally for “Technology Development and Application,” 19th for “Brand and Reputation,” and 31st for “Crisis Management,” placing it 375th overall for innovative universities.
Rector Widya Priyahita Pudjibudojo attributed this achievement to UNU Jogja’s acceleration scheme launched in 2022, divided into three phases: new process business set-up, achieving targets, and ensuring sustainable impact. The university’s “5 GO” strategy—Go Innovative, Go Digital, Go Collab, Go Professional, and Go Global—has produced numerous innovations.
UNU Jogja also focuses on five development aspects: institutional capacity and human resources, academics, infrastructure, networking, and creative funding. “We aim to balance institutional strengthening, community empowerment, and global recognition through flagship programs,” said the Rector.
Flagship programs include the College for Future Studies in partnership with the UAE, Faculty of Future Metallurgy with GEM Co. Ltd, the Center for Football Industry Innovation with La Liga Business School and Global Sport Innovation Center, the Center for Blockchain with ICP Switzerland, among others.
In the past three years, UNU Jogja has developed digital-based governance, services, and learning while hosting creative programs to enhance national and global reputation. Examples include exhibitions at Galeri NUsantara and about 50 annual international events, such as the recent Phyton Asia-Pacific Conference, attracting 100 international participants and around 700 visitors in total.
“The achievements were reached in just three years, marking UNU Jogja as a progressive young university in Indonesia,” said the Rector.
UNU Jogja also reflects Indonesia’s diversity: its 2,000 students come from 184 regencies across the country. About 92% study with partial or full scholarships from third parties or the “Gerakan Orang Tua Asuh” program. As an inclusive campus, UNU Jogja supports students with disabilities through the Center for Gender Empowerment and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) and promotes youth issues via the Center for Population and Family Studies (Pusdeka).
“Our principle is ‘no one left behind.’ UNU Jogja strives to make higher education accessible to all, including those facing physical or economic challenges,” the Rector emphasized.
Graduates are encouraged to make broad societal, educational, and professional impacts. The university facilitates postgraduate scholarships, especially abroad, and equips graduates through capacity-building programs such as the Social Laboratory (Labsos) and career and business mapping support via the Directorate of Employability & Entrepreneurship.
WURI evaluates universities based on tangible contributions to society and industry through education, research, and innovative breakthroughs. Innovation is measured not only by academic output but also by its real-world significance and impact.
Covering 16 categories, WURI highlights universities excelling in innovation and inspiring academic and social progress. It emphasizes the need for universities to continuously innovate amid rapid global changes and complex educational challenges.
According to www.wuri.world, WURI also values social responsibility, ethics, and integrity, while guiding universities to sustain their innovative potential.
